On the Way

On January 4th, 2013 I drove Victoria’s

Great Ocean Road

with some Canadian friends

We were heading west to Lochard Gorge and had

been on the road for half an hour

before we arrived here.
By the time we arrived at Loch Ard Gorge…

some 6 hours later…

the temperature was around 44 degrees Celsius

and the bitumen in the car park was melting

under the weight of tourist traffic.

Note, everyone is hugging the shadows.

I have been down in the Gorge many times…

but that day was the first time

I wished I had not done so.

The heat was stifling.

Fortunately the return trip, via an inland highway

was only about two hours.

At the other end of the temperature gauge,

we sighted the Antarctica ice pack

while travelling to Africa last year

Yesterday, Friday, I decided to take a photographic drive

around the outskirts of Geelong.

At one stage I was one the way to the You Yangs,

but decided to leave the trip for another day.

I had an appointment in Geelong and was early.

I noticed this pigeon on a vacant lot across the road…

thoroughly searching the landscape

before swooping down for lunch and…

becoming almost invisible among the weeds.

Finally, I found Percy who was almost preened

for a night out on the town.

On Thursday I ventured down to the coast…
hoping for a rough sea, lots of waves…and spray.
Unfortunately this was the largest wave sighted.

Bell’s Beach, near Geelong, is the setting for the

Australian Surfing Championships

at Easter each year.

Bell’s Beach was just behind me when I took this shot

In this shot, Anglesea can be see on the other side of the bay.

So that is my selection of photos for the challenge…

This week I am featuring my favourite

animal on the earth.

 Imagine getting a whack with this…

and a whole new dimension is added to…

‘Make sure you wash behind your ears’.  

Our children should never again grumble…

they don’t realise how easy they have it.

Same, as above, applies here

A couple of travellers felt a warm spot….just….there.

Our Guide and Google, assure me that

that is where testicles are kept.

You would have to think twice before

trying to kick him in the ………. 🙂
Even this view was something

not previously experienced
Work colleagues had no idea what this was…
and  it had to be explained.

Again not an everyday sight.

On our last day we had an early rise.

Imagine sighting this no more than thirty feet away.

Not so much a different angle or perspective

for the photograph,

but definitely for the tourists.

We were on the Olifants River

and this old dear was on land

and that was the difference

between high and low blood pressure.

Hers was high.

We were definitely not welcome.

Wordless Wednesday_15-2705

Tuesday’s Black and White…in colour…plus one.

Clouds and fog keeping sun at bay.

It’s a toss-up whether the colour or the Black and White version depicts trees stretching for the sun better.

Eagles are just beautiful.

It is interesting that many farmers,

where I was raised would gladly shoot an eagle.

I have not heard one harsh word said against

these birds since we moved.

A mixture of subjects this week.

While out driving on Sunday morning,

quite suddenly I was enveloped by this fog.

These tree trunks appear to have grown

to where the sun rises first.

And finally, I have never seen a sight like this in all my life.

So to actually spend time taking photos was a huge bonus.  

I would love to be another hundred metres or so closer.
