during our bush fires of late 2010 early 2020.

Many, or most, of the

World War I cemeteries I visited

were either alongside a road 

or easily accessible in a paddock.

Toronto Avenue broke these ‘rules’.

 

After turning at the sign we had a fairly long drive…

 

 

…on a narrow, well maintained road before reaching…

the cemetery proper.

All of which is hidden in Belgium’s,

Ploegsteert Wood

So quiet and peaceful.

Toronto Avenue Cemetery was named from

a Communication Trench in Ploegsteert Wood,

in which it is located.

The cemetery contains the graves

of 78 officers and men of

the 9th Brigade (3rd Australian Division)

who died in the Battle of Messines

between 7 and 10 June 1917.

The cemetery contains 78 First World War burials,

two of them unidentified.

Travel Theme.

The first ‘love’ symbol I thought of…

was our Salzburg Christmas decoration.

 

 Then came the city of love and…

 

a few of its iconic sights.

 However, this was the only couple showing

any signs of public affection.

I fell in love the I Love Paris shop because

it was the only place I could purchase

any clothing which would fit me.

Now it’s just a matter of wearing out

other clothes so I can wear my

I Love Paris windcheater.

In early June I set off on my tour of

Western Front WW I battlefields. 

MGW was not interested,

hence it was a solo trip.

MGW was not all that happy to see my Facebook

posts with me in shorts and shirts sleeves

at her relative’s Fromelles grave.

The weather had turned cold Down Under.

The sun shone on the road to

Vlaanderen, in Belgium…

 and continued to do so at

Hill 60…

the site of the Christmas Truce

at Prowse Point.

All in all one could not ask for

better weather while travelling.

Branches

Travel Theme.

A blogger told me this was a

Ginko tree/leaves a few months ago.

I hope my memory is serving me well.

Eucalyptus trees capturing the morning sun.

 

I think the bird is a darter on these dead branches.

Colours have been inverted in Picasa

to create a negative effect.

Unfortunately those in power, in their wisdom

decided to cut down these Sugar Gums.

Instead of this view there are now

 many tiny tree guards protecting whatever

has since been planted.

I just love these big old trees.

And so livestock on a sunny day.

grass waves in paddocks this time of year.

December 2016 our camera club

flew to Sydney for the day.

One of the highlights of a visiting

Sydney is to visit King’s Cross.

Kings Cross has a reputation which

draws large crowds after  dark.

 

It seemed everyone on the excursion

knew about the Coca-Cola sign

at Kings Cross, except yours truly.

A good Irish sounding name for a hotel.
