In 2013, an unexpected…

…last night game drive…

…was the only…

…reason we were able…

…to capture these images of six week old

lion cubs and their mother.

Although there was moisture in the air

the last thing we expected was

to need umbrellas when

under cover, at Pompeii.

Nor did I expect Rome’s

Trevi Fountain to be

tucked away in such a small area…

…or that there would be so many tourists visiting

at the same time as we were.

My only grumble during our

European holiday was…

..the number of tourists that were

at all the places we were visiting.

The Trevi Fountain is one good example.

During the time we were there

the crowd in front of the fountain

never thinned making it impossible

to have some tourist time of my own

😉 😉 ;-D ;-D

Comfortable

It appears that young Maggie did not care about comfort

the day she licked up discarded cooking wine.

MGW thought Maggie was ill…until

she smelled Maggie’s breath.  🙂

Growing

About ten days after autumn rain

grass seeds begin to pop through

seeking warm sunshine.

Tangled

Perhaps the rope is not as tangled

as it could be…

..so I added some rectangles of

which there are plenty.

Crowded

I was wishing some of the tourists had stayed away

the day we visited Rome’s

Trevi Fountain.

Exuberant

It seems a life time ago since I was able

to jump like this without any concern

for the damage it was doing to my knees.

In June 2018 was the first time I had ever

The queue waiting to visit the Palace of Versailles.

Fortunately we were leaving.

Someone told me they came back near midnight

to get a tourist free photo of Trevi Fountain.

Tourists and locals alike mingle

on the corner opposite the

Amsterdam Railway Station.

MGW was nearly run down by a motorcyclist

who had run a red light.

She was lucky.

Perseus with the Head of Medusa~~~~~

When visiting Rome,

you do as the Romans do…

tolerate all other 220,000 visitors…

…visiting Rome each day.

We were told 80,000,000 visitors visit Rome each year.

The Trevi Fountain had its share the day we visited.

These were the best…

…people free shots I managed.

Even after twenty minutes or so of

visitors coming and going,

there had been no obvious change

to the crowd.

Like sheep to slaughter…

…we followed guides through

crowded Roman streets.

Turning a corner more tourists,

however, we were there/here.

People, people everywhere taking their

Trevi Fountain photos…

…then consulting their Rome ‘must do’ lists

before moving onto to the next crowded attraction.

glimpse

“she caught a glimpse of the ocean”

see or perceive briefly or partially.

Each morning of our European holiday,

our tour director would begin with the phrase…

‘...well you’ve done (insert city name),

tonight we will be in (insert city name)…’

While I thoroughly enjoyed our trip…

I did feel that we were only getting

a glimpse of each city…the highlights.

The following year I returned

to Arras in France for a

Western Front Battlefields tour.

Arras, Bell Tower

Because I was in Arras for 5 nights

I think I enjoyed that brief trip

as much as any of the cities

we visited the previous year.

random

an unknown, unspecified, or odd person.

Our boys would describe…

…the crowd around Rome’s Trevi Fountain…

…as a crowd of randoms.

The crowd would probably think

the  boys were ‘randoms’ also

Rome’s Trevi Fountain

was one of the biggest disappointments

during our visit in my opinion.

I had mixed it with another Roman fountain

which I had seen in a movie or on television.

That’s right I had not done any research.

I like to see things first hand and

I feel the internet can spoil the ‘Wow’ moment.

I can say I was surprised when

we came upon Trevi Fountain.

It was surrounded by people who

were totally disconnected with other visitors

Planning, bored or discussing the photo

they had taken a few minutes earlier,

while others tried to get a clear shot.

All the ‘sitters’ were utterly disconnected

to the needs, or wants,

of their fellow tourists.
