Having a shape that reduces drag
when moving through water.

Whether frolicking in Logan’s Beach Whale Nursery…

…or enjoying the sun in Alaska’s Glacier Bay,

both whales and seals have

aquadynamic body shapes…

…just like this seal sculpture at the Melbourne Zoo.

Last week I posted images of Logan’s Beach

whale viewing platform at Warrnambool.

I posted this image simply to indicate

how close to the shore they were.

I had watched this pair (mother and calf) swim…

…and frolic for around a kilometre or more…

…parallel to to the beach…

…never being much further out to sea…

…than in my first image.

After watching, waiting and hoping…

…while they made their way towards us…

…it soon became apparent…

…that instead of…

…coming they were indeed going.

I decided that it was well worth the drive.

One of Warrnambool’s major draw cards

is its whale nursery.

And what better way to discover off shore whales…

…than with a drone probably worth more

than some vehicles on the road.

 Logan’s Beach Whale nursery

is on the Geelong (East) side of Warrnambool…

…and an attraction which I never visited when living a mere 50 kilometres away….

…but I happily drove 200 km back for a visit

a year or so ago.

No-one ever mentioned the viewing platform or that the whales were so close to shore.

Next week I will post more whale images.
