Fashion of all sorts.

A drawing from my Mother-in-law’s school sketch book.

Her daughters did not know she had this until

after she passed away a couple of years ago.

 

And it seems only a few years ago that

London model Twiggy,

caused a furore at the Melbourne Cup

wearing a mini skirt two whole inches

above the knee.

Hemlines have certainly changed since 1965.

 

 

 

Fashion on the gold fields in mid 1800s.

Being married anywhere is now fashionable.

Bride’s dresses have changed considerably

since the late 1970s and mid 80s.

In  my twenties I did like to dress formally for a night out.

Sadly I don’t go out as much and formally has

taken on a whole new meaning.

Fashion on a Rivera beach, Nice to be precise,

is much more relaxed.

I believe this beautiful Athabaskan

coat and hood was for formal wear.

This is what is left of the

Misery Creek Bridge.

It was still intact, I’m told, until a couple of years ago.

A sizeable tree landed on it, just to camera right,

and that was the end of the majority of the bridge.

 

 

Thought it a good subject for weathered and worn.

Recently a group of us visited Smythesdale

for our bi-monthly lunch.

In the main street I found a Masonic Hall.

Not sure if it is still in use but at No. 40

must be one of the earliest in Australia.

The Chinese were another major part

of our gold mining history.

Ah Woa was in big trouble for

not having paid for a mining licence.

Some things never change, do they?

 

 

Just a little further down the road was

the Smythesdale Post Office,

operational for just over a century

according to this sign.

 

 

 

 

It appeared to have a magnificent backyard.

However, it appeared to be a private residence now

and there was no sign of anyone to ask.
