Earlier in August, I travelled to Queenscliff, to catch the ferry.

While waiting I noted that the wind sock, though battered,

was indicating that the crossing would be fairly calm.

I lined up with other cars and vehicles…

foregoing an early morning coffee in favour of one on board.

 Underway and looking back to Queenscliff, from the topside.

Glancing down and all I saw was churning water as the ferry

was propelled smoothly across Port Philip Bay.

Recently I found this Sulphur Crest Cockatoo close

enough to capture a reasonably good photo.

 It eyed me off, and decided that I would probably do him no  harm…

and decided to preen its feathers.

It reminded me of many summer nights when hundreds of cockatoos

would be noisily bidding each other ‘goodnight’

in surrounding pine trees.

After several hours of ‘goodnights’, when they were almost quiet

our neighbour would fire a shotgun either into them, or in the air,

and hundreds of cockatoos would be woken

from their almost slumber…not mention yours truly.

This one was kinda cute and it is hard to think that it was one of

hundreds which managed to spoil a quiet evening.

Last week while feeding the magpies…
I happened to look up from dismembering a slice of bread to see this bloke sitting on the other side of the trampoline.
I’m not sure who was shocked most.
It didn’t take long for one body to hope there would be some overflow…
and for some friends to be  looking down on the scene.
One of the onlookers decided to…
drop in and join its friend.
Maggie was starving so much that she did not notice the grace of her namesake…
 as it manoeuvred its way down to the trampoline.
Wings tucked backed…
claws extended, and…
touchdown.

Part of the ceremony during last Tuesday’s First Shot of World War 1 Commemoration…
was a fly over by some Tiger moths.
However, these pelicans…
jumped the gun…
and put on quite a display…
behind the military presence.
However,
they were not content…

with a fly by…
~~~
they had to…
complete…
a full circle or two, before…
deciding…
to…
head…
out into…
Port Phillip Bay.
I enjoyed…
watching their formation flying…
as they glided…
on the air currents.

What is it?

~~~~~I thought I was photographing a local seagull this morning, until…
I downloaded them to my computer this evening and noticed

the yellow hood it is wearing.

The crane and buildings are at least one kilometre away

and my 200 mm zoom lens was stretched to full zoom.
The cap, or hood, the bird is wearing alerted me to the fact the I had

photographed something I had not previously sighted.

Could it be a rare new species?  Could I get naming rights?

I can just see it…Woolly’s Golden Gull  😉

If it’s pest at your back door please tell what it’s called.

Google has not been helpful…this time.

I love the colour blends on seagulls.

This kookaburra and its mates would eat out of our hands.

Unfortunately, my camera, or its operator, was not performing at peak level

on the day, which lead to limited usable photos.

Even though they have ‘mean’ eyes…
I do like them.  This time they put on a wonderful show for me.
This group soared high over the tree tops…
and higher, then…

banking, before diving and…
swooping in low over the water.
