Until 2005 I lived among

South Western Victoria’s

volcanic lava flows.

…where stone fences were not at all unusual.

Nor were buildings of stone held

together with a mud mortar.

Not being a fan of sandy beaches…

…I found it difficult to see what the attraction was

to this stony beach at

Nice,

on the

French Riviera.

This week’s images

come from Italy and France.

Venice and Murano…

…provided us with our first wet weather day

since leaving Australia.

More wet weather at Pompeii where even under cover

colourful umbrellas were required

to keep rain at bay.

And the downpour eased we had to

negotiate flooded streets before

reaching our coach.

At least the umbrellas at Nice were being used

to keep the sun away and afford some privacy

on Nice’s private beaches.

converted to a picnic table.

More than one wheel in a ferris wheel,

but only one we really see.

I think this is only a three wheel plough.

Fashion of all sorts.

A drawing from my Mother-in-law’s school sketch book.

Her daughters did not know she had this until

after she passed away a couple of years ago.

And it seems only a few years ago that

London model Twiggy,

caused a furore at the Melbourne Cup

wearing a mini skirt two whole inches

above the knee.

Hemlines have certainly changed since 1965.

Fashion on the gold fields in mid 1800s.

Being married anywhere is now fashionable.

Bride’s dresses have changed considerably

since the late 1970s and mid 80s.

In  my twenties I did like to dress formally for a night out.

Sadly I don’t go out as much and formally has

taken on a whole new meaning.

Fashion on a Rivera beach, Nice to be precise,

is much more relaxed.

I believe this beautiful Athabaskan

coat and hood was for formal wear.

A variety of drinks.Hot and cold drinks abroad The Q Train for

our Wedding anniversary earlier in the year.

I suspect a French breakfast at an Ibis Hotel…last year.

A warm day in Nice called for a cold drink.

A Sunday morning coffee break was called for…

around 10 AM.

Even though it was raining this  drink was gratefully accepted.
