My contribution for this week’s
Looking Up-2
Still in Florence for this week’s city for looking up.
Standing an overall 5,19 metres tall,
Benvenuto Cellini’s statue of Perseuss towers
above all who visit the Piazza della Signoria, in Florence.
The marble base also contains bronze statues of
Jupiter, Mercury, Minerva and Danae.
When I took this photo I was wondering why
there was such a mop of curly hair on the victim
hiding the head.
And then I looked up higher again!
It was not until preparing this post that
I realised the ‘victim’ was a woman.
Medusa, no less.
