rush

move with urgent haste.
an erect, tufted marsh or waterside plant resembling a sedge or grass, with inconspicuous greenish or brownish flowers.

Discovered during a sedate walk around

the Geelong Botanic Gardens,

I feel certain that these are members

of the bull rush family.

Melbourne Laneways provide access to rush

between the city’s main shopping streets.

Back in the nineteen fifties this cemetery trust

used sheep as lawn mowers,

so it is conceivable that the fence

was erected as a barrier to livestock.
