These are not twinkling stars
rather they are glow worms in the
Ruakuri Cave
(from memory, the only cave we were
permitted to photograph the glow worms)

Until I followed my Grandfather’s footsteps
to the Western Front, in 2017,
I had not heard of VC Corner
During the July 19-20 1916 attack on German lines
over 5500 men of the 5th Australian Division
were killed, during the division’s attack on
the German lines at Fromelles.
The VC Corner Australian Cemetery is the resting place…
…of 410 Australian unknown soldiers who were
among 1299 killed during this battle.
I found it difficult to come to terms with how
well these cemeteries were cared for.
