Roy and Stan were neighbours and lived

on the outskirts of our rural township.

Roy was also the hired help at shearing

time for the first twenty years of my life.

When it came time that Roy was retiring

and selling his house and the twenty acres

it was on,  he was inclined to take

whatever he could get for the

house and land.

Dad talked him into having what we

call a clearing sale.

A clearing sale is where all none fixtures

are lined up outside and sold

to the highest bidder.

Initially many of my tools came from

local clearing sales.

On this occasion Dad noticed what looked

like his sand sieve which he had loaned

to Roy sometime prior.

While he was contemplating the loss of his

sieve a voice cut through his thoughts asking

Hey, Frank how does it feel to see

your shovel up for sale.

About the same as seeing your sand sieve

up for sale I would imagine, Stan, replied Dad.

Google tells me that these are pansies or violas.

In this photo, particularly, the foliage does not

look like pansies or violas, unless

they are a North American variety.

Whatever they are as with most of my recent

FOTD images they were captured

in the

Butchart Gardens

Victoria

Vancouver Island

Canada
