When I purchased this spade around 35 years

ago, the handle was covered in varnish.

Now, the darker parts of the handle are the

only places where the varnish had not worn off.

New spades also come with a nice square cutting edge.

It is a sign of wear and tear that the

corners are rounded and the middle is

hollowed out like this one is.

A prime example of a timeworn tool.
