Word-of-Day-Challenge-Admire
~~~~~
During our visit to the Vatican…
…we found many…
…works of art to admire.
And although
The Creation of Adam
measures 280 cm × 570 cm (9 ft 2 in × 18 ft 8 in)
it looked much smaller.
However, perhaps the fact that it
was 14 metres above us contributed to the fact
that it didn’t appear a large as expected.
One of the many scenes, or sites, of…
…of intricate art within the walls of
the Vatican City.
Giants from new Zealand…although we begin in Italy.
Anyone who has visited the Vatican
may have climbed the spiral step less staircase
and been in awe at its construction.
However the entrance/exit to the Ruakuri Cave, at Waitomo,
makes the Vatican staircase look like a miniature.
We also visited the Giant Redwood Forest at Rotorua.
These trees are not as large as some
of the photographed Californian Redwoods,
however, they are still Giant Redwoods
Workers from all over…
A gondolier.
My limited knowledge of lumberjacks’ work
tells me that they actually did climb trees
as part of every day work.
Memory could be way off though.
Happy to be corrected.
Amid that crowd is a Beefeater at work
guiding visitors around
the Tower of London.
While in Europe each guide carried a flag of some kind.
Trouble was there was so much to see
and dawdle over, the coloured flag
was often forgotten (by me).
All guides were very knowledgeable but
sometimes it was just nice to walk and look
without the constant commentary.
Our favourite African guide,
planning the next day.
Or was he offering up thanks for
a successful day just ended?
FOWChallenge-Inspire
~~~~~
My inspirations come from the Vatican today.
Wherever we looked…
we saw inspiring…
works of art.
Unfortunately the guide’s book was
as close as I came to
photographing ‘Creation’
Then (Step-less) Spiral Staircase.
In recent posts I have commented that we did not
see as much as I would have liked at Pompeii.
I probably have this state of mind because I
wanted to be an archeologist about 50 years ago.
However, the vatican more than compensated
for Pompeii.
Just inspiring.

Although not the best photograph,
flash photography not allowed….
We all spent more than a moment admiring
Michelangelo’s Pieta (Jesus & Mary)
in St. Peter’s Basilica,
Vatican City, Rome.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL-Zoom-In-Zoom-Out-3
Another Zoom-In-Zoom-Out
while Paula is taking a break
These photos were to be used in
Cee’s Fun Foto-People at Work Challenge
I think they probably fit both.
The flags represent two (of many) guides
in the Vatican the day we visited.
