Although the lean has been arrested,

Pisa’s famous Leaning Tower

has certainly deviated away

from perpendicular…

 


…and has moved into a

sloping position.

Seems there were many towering photo

opportunities during our European holiday.

The Tower of Pisa.

Maybe not a tower per se, but

York Minster does tower over visitors…

…and locals alike.

The ceiling of

Notre Dame de Paris

also towers above its visitors.

And still towers over Paris…

…rivalled only by this Parisian tower.

 

On our way back Down Under

we stopped off in Dubai

for a few nights.

I think the Burj Khalifa Tower is my favourite

just for its sheer size.

My memories of photos of this attraction were… always of a building on its own.

 

 

Never once had I thought of it surround

by walls of other buildings…

 

clustered in a relatively small area.

 However, all my memories were incorrect.

I’m just not certain where a photo

could be taken and leave the viewer

with the illusion of a Tower leaning

and not surrounded by other buildings.

Week-49

Leaning Tower of Pisa
Italy

Before we arrived for this short walk we were advised

that there would be some ‘public transport’ to assist

our journey from bus stop to town…about 300-400 metres.

Not far but by this stage I feet were glad of any respite.

Off the bus/coach and onto McDonald’s Express.

This was my first surprise.

A hidden Tower?

Even this morning many of Google’s photos

depict the Tower in what appears to be

an uncluttered field.

And walls like this to further add some mystery to the area.

And the Leaning Tower is actually

the Cathedral’s, Bell Tower.

WE had neither time or energy to climb to the top

and decided this was close enough.

After a few obligatory photos…

we began our walk back to our coach via the market stalls…

 

stopping only occasionally to view the wares on display.

Backs

Backs from Europe this week…

 and we saw many backs walking away

from us while touring.

I guess we made the backs

for other photographers.

And while in Florence we saw this

imitation of David…but still a back.

Entering Nice one of the first things we saw

was a tarmac full of private jets.

There were times a chair would have

been quite welcome.

I even thought cycling was better than walking.

And I guess a visit to Nice would not be complete

without a tourist shot or two of sunbathers’ backs.
