V/Line travel to and from Melbourne is improving all the time…

…with our rolling stock proudly made in Victoria.

Pre-pandemic we celebrated our wedding anniversary…

…with dinner aboard the Q Train…

…in our first-class cabin

Our next train adventure was a bit more modern

than the Old Queenslander…

…a real Red Carpet treatment on both mornings

and umbrellas to keep the rain off

as we boarded the second morning…

…and it was always expected that Canada’s

Rocky Mountaineer

would be something special.

Again we treated ourselves to the

Gold Leaf experience.

The Gold Leaf

cars are on two levels.

Upstairs, guests are seated and view the passing countryside

in the most comfortable train seats possible…

All dining is on the bottom level of Gold Leaf…

…while we were told that meals were brought to where guests

were seated in Silver Leaf carriages.

The difference between carriages is clear in the above photo.

Single versus double-deck carriages and

no rooftop viewing in Silver Leaf.

To wrap up our two-day journey a welcoming committee

greeted us upon our arrival in Vancouver

While visiting a nearby Men’s Shed we were treated to

a tasty morning tea.

During most recent Decembers…

…we hove been treated to a feast

of tasty home grown cherries.

Some, probably not so healthy treats

from a High Tea.

Above and below are two tasty courses from

Dinner on The Q Train.

The Q train is a tourist train which runs on a track

long enough to give staff and guests

time to serve and enjoy dinner.

A few years ago we celebrated our

32nd Wedding Anniversary

with dinner on

The Q Train.

While not my idea of a treat this bear thought otherwise,

happily extracting a piece of fruit from

the hole in the tree limb.

delight

please (someone) greatly.
“an experience guaranteed to delight both young and old”

In October 2016 it was a delight to take…

High Tea in the

Burj Al Arab’s

Sky View Bar

(200 metres above sea level, on the 27th floor)

and…

watch the sun setting over

The Palm Jumeirah,

in Dubai.

30th Wedding Anniversary

For our Thirtieth Wedding Anniversary

MGW booked us a hot air balloon ride

over Melbourne.

Last year another delightful surprise with

First Class Dining aboard

The Q Train

This year it was High Tea at

the Langham Hotel

in Melbourne.

All experiences could only be described

as delightful outings.

Some unexpected moments

from 2018.I rose with the sparrows and drove 45 minutes

to Point Lonsdale for a sunrise shoot last March.

Expectations were high.

Results were low.

And after being blown around by a chilly breeze

I decided to pack my gear away and head home.

I had walked about a quarter of the way

back along the pier

when this rainbow appeared above the lighthouse.

I had no more than two minutes

to grab a camera and capture some images…

then it was gone as quickly as it appeared.

Unexpectedly.

Also this time last year I had no idea we would

celebrate our Wedding Anniversary with

First Class Dining in a private cabin

aboard the Q Train.

June in Canada and we did not expect

to experience falling snow….even on

the Columbia Icefield.

This time last year we did expect a trip

to Auckland for an engagement party.

However, a wedding date had not been settled upon

and so our September/October trip

back (to New Zealand) for the

wedding of Number 1 Son

to Number 2 Daughter-in-Law

was unexpected but enjoyable.

SUNDAY-STILLS-PC-Summer-Drink

Earlier this year we had a

Wedding Anniversary dinner

aboard The Q Train.

The Q Train is a refurbished Queensland Train

which operates for lunch and dinner on a

 short two-hour length of rail, near Geelong,

making the experience a four-hour return journey .

These are but three of the matching drinks

which were provided with each course.

For me/us, summer or winter,

any drink which does not…

~~~~contain alcohol is the drink of the day.
Earlier this year MGW and I decided to…
celebrate our wedding anniversary with
a First Class Dining Experience on The Q Train,
a restored Queenslander Train
which runs on a short section of disused track
between Drysdale and Queenscliff.
Part of the First Class experience was a private cabin…
a six course meal and…
matching wine with each course.
As wine does not appeal to either of us we asked for
were supplied with a non-alcoholic version of each drink,
some of which I have included in today’s post.
We hope to repeat the journey sometime in the future
and while we have daylight saving time so
we can enjoy the scenery as we dine.
