Not far from the Geelong CBD…

…can be found, if you are lucky…

…Australia’s largest airborne bird,

the Wedge Tailed Eagle.

This vulture was rehabilitating in South Africa’s

Moholoholo Wildlife Centre.

In 2013 we were allowed to feed this magnificent bird.

Its eye are focussed on the next hand

to hold and feed it.

Not the same cheetah,

but a cheetah just the same.

And my hand came away in tact.

Giraffe Horns

Ever wondered if an elephant had teeth.

Now you know.

vulture

a large bird of prey with the head and neck
more or less bare of feathers,
feeding chiefly on carrion and reputed
to gather with others in anticipation of the death
of a sick or injured animal or person.

Vulture.

A much heavier bird than I thought it would  be.

Vultures’ feeding ground.

In 2013 I thought I would be able to

hold a vulture fairly easily.

Not so!

In 2020 I am fairly certain that I would need

more than the helping hand I received in this image.

Some images from South Africa.

Bateleur Eagle

Not sure if an eagle or hawk.

We were able to feed and hold this bloke.

Well, hold with assistance.

Ground Hornbill keeping an eye on things.

How about the eye lashes?

As we left we could get the Warthog

shoe clean if we so desired. 🙂
