African landscapes

Sundown on our last night in Africa, 2013.

Greater Kruger National Park.

From Lekhubu Island in the

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.

North Eastern Kalahari Desert,

Botswana.

Kalahari Bash landscapes…

…after our overnight camp on Lekhubu Island.

Most of us agreed that this was what

we thought of when talking of

African landscapes.

Still in the north-eastern area

of the Kalahari, on our way

to Maun, Botswana.

The Great Outdoors theme reminded me of…

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans which form part of the

North Eastern Kalahari Desert in Botswana.

Driving into the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans on Sua Pan

we camped the night at Lekhubu Island

and watched a beautiful sunset

and sunrise the next morning.

The next day we seemed to drive for hours

with only the occasional village to pass by and

a few more Acacia trees to form

the only shelter and shade along the way..

We really felt alone on the planet.

My emptiness post comes from our travels

in Botswana in 2014.

I will never forget approaching this site.

I was absolutely we were approaching a long grey wall

out in the north-eastern reaches of the Kalahari Desert.

Nothing so mysterious, just the water

at Nata Bird Sanctuary.

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.

What this impala lives on is beyond me.

If these shots don’t epitomise emptiness

I don’t know what does…

However, we both felt that these shots…

epitomise our preconceived thoughts of what Africa

would look like.
