One-Word-Sunday-Night

Night shots from a variety of places.

Big Ben and Parliament House

from the London Eye

Arras Bell Tower and Place des Heros

Arras,

France

Our night cruise on the River Seine

gave us a multitude of river-side parties…

annd a different perspective

of the Eiffel Tower.

The drive back to our hotel took us past

the Arc de Triomphe…

…and also city lights.

After arriving in Dubai at 0400,

we had a quiet day…

…prior to  boarding a Dhow for a…

…Dubai Creek Dinner Cruise.

Just a few colourful images…

…from our Diner Cruise on…

…Dubai Creek.

Night two saw us on a desert safari and dinner,

with entertainment provided by a fire dancer…

…and a belly dancer.

A great time was had and if you don’t mind

sand from horizon to horizon you

will love the experience.

Me?

I’m not a fan of sand.

We often hear of time machines which

are designed to transport us back

or forward in time.

These machines only exist in our minds,

novels and movies such as the

Back to the Future series.

Yet all round are…

…time measuring machines

Big ones on Bell Towers…

…much smaller versions to hag on a kitchen wall…

…and finally, Melbourne’s famous landmark

The Flinders Street Station clocks.

Let’s meet under the clocks

was an oft used phrase of

Melbournians and visitors alike.

A few decades ago the analogue clock faces

were going to be replaced by their digital cousins.

This caused much discontent in Melbourne

that a compromise was reached.

These analog faces are now digitally powered.

Word-of-Day-Challenge-Resolution

~~~~~
resolution
Image resolution is the detail an image holds.
~~~~~

Most of my images are…

  …600 pixels on the long side

with a minimum file size.

I do lose image quality but it saves

a great deal of space at WordPress’ end.

For example these two images

are 42 and 60 kb respectively.

glimpse

“she caught a glimpse of the ocean”

see or perceive briefly or partially.

Each morning of our European holiday,

our tour director would begin with the phrase…

‘...well you’ve done (insert city name),

tonight we will be in (insert city name)…’

While I thoroughly enjoyed our trip…

I did feel that we were only getting

a glimpse of each city…the highlights.

The following year I returned

to Arras in France for a

Western Front Battlefields tour.

Arras, Bell Tower

Because I was in Arras for 5 nights

I think I enjoyed that brief trip

as much as any of the cities

we visited the previous year.

Word-of-Day-Challenge-Oblong

~~~~~
~~~~

Oblong…defined as

a rectangular object or flat figure with

unequal adjacent sides.

I did not take one picture of the whole square however

I think Place des Heros in Arras, France,

fits the definition of oblong.

I was just under the clock face for the above images.

The roof in the foreground of the above image…

Arras, Bell Tower

was lit up around 2200 hours.

Was happy to see I was not the only person

interested in photographing the scene.
