Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge-Signs

~~~~~
While cruising
Queensland’s Daintree River
a few years back…
…we noted a few signs of danger
lurking on the shore.
After the cruise we had to cross
the Daintree River
on this ferry/barge.
Although this crop is not very good,
one does get the idea that the sign is a warning
of crocodiles and swimming in the river.
Remain in your vehicle?  Really?
Who would get out on a
relatively sideless barge while crossing
a crocodile infested river.
Sadly, someone will.
Below are some shots taken while…
admiring the Orakei Korako Geothermal
area in New Zealand.
Not necessarily in order…
but they do give an idea of…
what is was like to  walk this area.
It is hard to imagine that anyone would
wander off the path and signage
would be required.
I would have loved more handrails…
than there was.
This was one of the early indications that
it was not safe to step off the paths.
And this was nearing the end of
our 1.8 kilometre and 666 steps walk.
Had I known it was so long and so many steps
I may have thought twice.
However, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience,
and not too many others around
to spoil the  enjoyment.
Below is an area of The Great Ocean Road,
near The Twelve Apostles,
known as Gibsons Steps.
I don’t recall seeing steps but people who were
on the sand materialised in the car park
in a short space of time.
Vatican steps.
Viennese steps.
These steps are near the beginning of
the Orakei Korako Geothermal walk…
1.8 kilometres and nearly 666 steps later
(there was some more around the corner)
we were nearly there.
My knees were protesting and they
screamed even louder when they saw we had
several flights of these stairs to and from our room.
That was the night we were offered a ground floor room.
And took it.
Before our visit to New Zealand last year
we booked all accommodation
long before leaving Australia.
Therefore it was a bit of a surprise to discover
we had booked a place so far out of Rotorua.
But what a wonderful entrance to
Hamurana Lodge.
We were given a local welcome
shortly after entering the drive.
Just wish we had more time
at this beautiful accommodation.
Shadows from Geelong and Botswana.
A few years ago I stopped to take photos of this church
not realising it was covered by
the shadow from a nearby tree.
Unfortunately the tree is no longer.
I think the church survives.
Over in Botswana’s Okavango Delta
both elephants and trees…
…cast long shadows…
…in the late afternoon sun.
