During my other life,

I was a qualified

Professional Woolclasser.

I have used the word Professional because

it was possible to be a qualified Owner Classer.

This meant that a classer holding an

Owner Classer qualification was only allowed

to class his, or her, own clip.

Whereas a Professional Classer was qualified

to class any wool clip.

Every bale of wool that was part of a woolclip

I had responsibility for preparing had my stencil

on it as well as the owners brand.

My Classer’s stencil contained my

registered number 760093.

AW (Australian Woolclasser) meant

I was a professional Wool Classer and

on the left of the map of Ausralia

were two numbers indicating the

expiry year of one’s registration.

In years gone by the stencil was the outilne of Australia

with the Classer’s number indside the map.

At one stage I remember seeing the

letter O or P included as well.

I can only suspect that AW was replaced with OW,

when appropriate, with this version of stencil.
