I can relate to this. We once took in a stray Jack Russell – it wasn’t very long before she led our faithful labrador astray; Sandy had never gone walk about before, but now we’d turn our backs for a moment and they were gone. We had hilarious reports of them walking down the centre of the road, Llttle and Large side by side.Where they were going was anyone’s guess. When the Jack Russel was killed and Sandy returned home alone it was no longer funny.
Thank you, Woolly. 🙂

Yes, it’s not at all humorous when a dog is killed by a vehicle

Not at all funny, it was heart breaking.
We’d previously heard people say how comical the dogs looked walking side by side down the centre white line of the road through the village, a big Golden Labrador and a little white Jack Russell. It wasn’t funny to us, we saw it as an accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately, our children were sometimes careless leaving doors and gates open.
They became more careful after the little Jack Russell was killed.
