It took a while to see the personality
in Africa’s Yellow Billed Hornbills.
For a time I thought they looked fierce…
….like its cousin the
Monteiro’s Hornbill.
The ugly duckling of the hornbills is
the Ground Hornbill, an endangered species,
which looks more like a turkey to me.
These ugly ducklings have a pop of red
around heir eyes and head…
And I’m sure many a woman
would kill for those eyelashes.

In our own backyard,
both literally and figuratively…
…we have a family of…
…New Holland Honey Eater’s in residence.
They can be found frequenting our native trees
when in flower.
I’m not sure if this is Mum or Dad,
but it was talking to the family teens
is my guess….and getting nowhere..

Pingback: Bird Weekly Round-Up – Week #35 – Our Eyes Open
Awesome set of photos this week! I’d love to see these Hornbills and Honeyeaters. The ugly duckling does look like a turkey but with a much larger beak. Since when do teenagers listen? Guess it doesn’t matter what the species is. LOL! 🙂

So true Lisa. Teens will be teens. Our youngest (28) is regales us with stories of his high school (teen) years. We are thankful we were blissfully unaware at the time.

You know that is right! I learn things now that I’m glad I didn’t know back then as well. My kids are 28, 33, 34. They have their own kids to deal with and one is already a teenager. Ugh! 🙂

Were are talking about the same age grouping. Our youngest will turn 29 mid-year, our eldest just turned 32. Grandkids….we are still waiting for our first to arrive, any day now.

Oh yeah, you are getting ready to be a grandpa. So what will you be called? I don’t have a traditional name because my first grandchild came when I was 38. Mine call me Nanni and Frank is Grampy. 🙂

I have no idea and MGW thinks she is too young to be a ‘grand’.

I get that, but I was too young. My middle child got pregnant her senior year in high school. She waddle across the stage at graduation. My granddaughter was born a week later. 🙂
