Thank you Nancy. News reports this morning of the Kangaroo Island fire state that one third (170,000 hectares/420,000 acres) of the island has burned and wildlife also decimated. But we are getting some light rain here and on firegrounds today…Sunday.

Fifty years ago when I was young I spent about 3 weeks at Stokes Bay on Kangaroo Island. (There was nothing there then but a few holiday shacks and a nearby farm.) My old friends and their family still farm not far from there, and I keep checking the news to make sure they are okay. I lived in Australia (Adelaide) for only a year, but Australia is in my heart and in my prayers.

The family name is Stanton. I was friends with two brothers, John and Richard Stanton. We were all young, late teens and early twenties in age. I lost touch many years ago, and of course we now are all grandparents, but I know that Richard and his wife and adult children are all farming on Kangaroo Island. (I googled him when the fires started.)

There has been a father and son death on KI…but not Stanton. At least the weather has calmed a little and much cooler. thursday is forecast to be the next bad day…although there is also light rain forecast as well in the next few days.

I’m sorry to hear about any deaths but glad to know the Stantons are okay. I’m glad the weather is cooler and that there will be at least some rain. People all over the world are praying for Australia.

We have had about tree hours of light steady rain and temp is at 13 celsius. Bulk of rain is still to reach firegrounds and while won’t be enough to extinguish fires timust help.
