I think that this sum of money…

for many of today’s youth.
Ten or twelve years ago I talked to some
of my students about jobs which
would pay $600-$800 per week.
They preferred their government handout
out of $235 per fortnight ($117.50 per week).
It was not until I heard two of this cohort
talking about renting a house in a tourist town
that I realised why.
They told me that any house with a bond
of $1,000, or less, would be paid by the government
