All my life I have lived within

a half hour drive from the coast,

Therefore I have never experienced the extremes

of inland climates or the cold associated with altitude

Single digit temperatures is noteworthy

and snow in the high country, has been making

news all of October and November.

This definitely one of those noteworthy cold days.

Whilst having breakfast one July morning

in the winter of 2007 I notice water running

over the edge of the gutter for a few seconds.

A few days later a similar occurrence.

This time armed with camera and ladder

I discover this river of ice which had formed a

horizontal icicle out to the edge of the spouting/gutter.

I have never seen this happen again.

a fertile spot in a desert, where water is found.

During a few hours of free time in Venice…

…the heavens opened on St Mark’s Square.

We were fortunate enough to find a dry oasis

in one of the surrounding coffee shops.

Where, along with fellow travellers we spent

several hours chatting and keeping dry.

I don’t think I have ever taken so long

to dink a up of coffee.
