Our last evening in South Africa, 2013.
An unexpected game drive…
…produced this sighting of two 8 week old lion cubs.
Twenty minutes later and after nearly 300 photos
of lion cubs watching tourists
we departed due to failing light.
So lucky.
That was early October 2013,
their mother was dead in mid-September 2014.
Until this week we have wondered if they survived.
Yesterday (Saturday) we heard via Facebook
that they still roam the area.

Great image – and it highlights the hard side of game drives, seeing the circle of life in its often harsh reality. Shows we must all appreciate our good luck when we get it.

Thank you Debbie. It was a great experience and about 300 shots in 20 minutes and I was truly appreciating my DSLR camera

Well they did share the same mother….however different sexes. We dubbed them Nosy (because it was the first to come and tourist watch) and Rosy (because it rhymed :-)). Only realised this year that Nosy should have been called Rosy and that it was the male which was skittish.

Thank you, Amy. It was nice to hear the cubs are still alive and with luck we may even get to see the adult version next year 🙂
