I spend most of my time
behind the camera so very few
photos of yours truly.
However I digitised some Super 8 movie film this year
and this my twenty-four year-old self, in April 1975,
signing the visitors book atop Ayres Rock
which is now known as Uluru.
In the background are The Olgas.
As of October 2019 no-one will be allowed
to climb Ayres Rock and even the cairn is to be removed.

Word of the Day Challenge: Yourself
It is a shame to lose places like that, either for our own safety or because of natural deterioration.

Deterioration has not been mentioned, to my knowledge. Safety has been cited. Thirty-five people killed while climbing. Based on that theory, we shouldn’t fly, drive, or walk across a road.
I Googled ‘how many tourist killed while climbing Ayres Rock’. And found this link.
I just wonder how tourism will hold up when ‘discouraged to climb’ turns into a ‘blanket ban’. I heard this being discussed on radio a few months ago and according to those ‘experts’ there is evidence the The Rock has been climbed for many thousands of years, which is contrary to current reasoning.

True. However. Words like ‘original owners’ and ‘sacred site’ seem to be pushing the closure…
