Tuesday-PC-Wk163-Ancient

~~~~~~
My first ancient was…Rome’s, Colosseum.
According to our guide was constructed
around 2,000 years ago.
My second ancient is something I have lived within sight of my whole life.
We call these mountains The Grampians and the the attraction in The Grampians is the township of Hall’s Gap.
In !976 while camping in the Canadian Rockies
I remember reading a plaque which stated that
Australia’s The Great Dividing Range was
older than the the Rockies.
In fact I believe that plaque stated that
the Australian Alps were well eroded
when the Rockies were formed.
Today Google tells me that The Great Dividing Range
was formed over 300 million years ago when Australia
collided with what are now parts of
South America and New Zealand.
Google also states that the Rocky Mountains were formed
between 80 and 55 million years ago.
I have never seen (in person) any form of snow on our Alps,
while I did see icy snow on Banff’s
Sulphur Mountain in August 1976.
And of course it snowed while we were at
the Columbia Ice Fields in June 2018
and the snow views at Whistler were simply awesome.
The Rocky Mountains definitely win the ‘wow’ for views and scenery,
however, I am claiming, for all Aussies, the ‘wow’ factor for age
for our Great Dividing Range.  😀
