Shambles

Prior to visiting some York friends we were told of

The Shambles…

So a couple of images from The Shambles, in York.

Perhaps not quite what was expected for the challenge,

however as Shambles also refers to a butchers slaughterhouse….  🙂

Maybe in Old York this was the home of butchers.

Perhaps still is!‘

Google suggests that “The Shambles“ is a general term

for a maze of twisting, narrow lanes.  

The lane actually called ‘The Shambles’, is perhaps

the best preserved medieval street in the world.

The Shambles was mentioned in

the Doomsday Book of William the Conqueror in 1086.

one of those eyesight tests. 

So please forgive if my idea of red is not yours…

Red and white polka dot bow tie.

Dark red roses.

And a dahlia in a lighter shade of red.

This week we are bending in Botswana.

The Okavango Delta is covered with watercourses…

all of which meander through

the low-lying land in of the Delta

 

Bends in the tracks

If we had not visited Elephant Sands,

in Botswana’s north-east,

I would not have been able to capture this bend.

Two firsts from our first African Safari in 2013. Our first elephant in Kruger National Park.

Not the best of images however, definitely a first.

Late on day three we received notification that

there had been a sighting…behind us

This was the sighting.

What I call my National Geographic shot 🙂

Our first and only leopard sighting.
