A fun idea when I next travel down that way. It would be interesting to see Melbourne from another angle. I used to watch the ferries come up the river from my top floor apartment last time, so seeing it from a ferry would be like the juxtaposed view!

Definitely worth a try. Port Phillip Ferries ran two trial services from Geelong. My trip was booked yet barely half filled on the day. Rather sad that people will book a free ride then not turn up.

That is disappointing.

Great photos and what a relaxing way to travel (beats the Ring Road)! 😑

Thanks Miriam. Does beat the Ring Road and the train for comfort.

That’s very interesting. I am moving to the Bellarine Peninsula in just over a week and have wondered about the ferry options into Melbourne.

Port Phillip Ferries had two trial services form Geelong of which the last was July 31st. They are hoping to have the go ahead later in he year or early next year. However, they already have an established service operating from Port Arlington which may be a better option.

I saw the trial service on the TV news and was interested to read your first hand account. It could be quite a wild crossing when the weather is bad. The Portarlington does sound like a ferry I’d love to take on a sunny day.

Probably would be a bit rougher, however, it is a twin hull ferry and may handle rough seas better than a single hull.

I might wait till a calm day – I don’t like rough sea trips.

Thanks Yvette. I think I will use it occasionally although parking among other things is a problem around Geelong’s foreshore. However, a great way to travel.
