Week 93

On our last night in South Africa were

called out on an unexpected game drive.

During the drive word came through of a sighting

of two lion cubs nearby.

We found them.

And after twenty minutes of being the only car on site

and twenty minutes of photographing

these two playful lion cubs…

thank goodness for digital storage…

we decided to head back to camp.

As we did so the sun was well on its way below the horizon

and we arrived back in twilight.

The last group activity we undertook in Paris

was a cruise on the River Seine.

The Eiffel Tower was lit up as we

commenced our cruise…

However, when we returned it had

changed colours and the white lights

were bidding us goodbye.

Our time in Paris was over.

Weekly Photo Challenge-Delta

My contribution for this week’s challenge…

While in Botswana we had the opportunity…

to take a flight over the Okavango Delta.

Even though it was late afternoon these elephants

were still opting for shade rather than sun.

Unlike many other deltas which are usually formed

where river and ocean, or lake, meet…

the Okavango Delta carries water from

Angola into Botswana where it spreads out…

to form an inland delta.

This gave us a great view of the

water and spread of the delta, while…

driving over the delta provided us with

never to be forgotten wildlife sightings.

Travel Theme-Abroad

Travel Theme.

Travelling to Europe last year gave us the

opportunity to see and or visit many places

we had read about or seen only as movie sets.

Both of us had, not long before departure,

finished reading a book titled,

“I, Mona Lisa’ which was set in Florence.

The Medici family were the main characters,

The story was a fictional depiction of how,

and why, the Mona Lisa may have come to be painted.

The Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees

are two well known landmarks of Paris.

This is one of the fountains inside

Dubai’s Burj Al Arab.

We had planned on partaking of High Tea at

the Burj Al Arab in 2013.

Unfortunately our plans had to change.

It was, however, a 7 star experience worth waiting for.

Where’s My Backpack: Abroad

I have taken a few photos of some

small waterholes this year simply

because they contain water.

This is  the first time this water hole

has held a good supply of water all through summer…

a good sign that we have not had the drought times

of previous years.

Black and White Tuesday

I took a drive to Point Lonsdale lighthouse

on Monday morning.

Unfortunately there was too much cloud

for good sunrise photos.

Capturing the suns rays on the water was

the pick of the bunch…just because

I was able to do so.

However, the lighthouse is still

the draw card for me.

Hope you enjoyed.

Book Review-Promise

Sarah Armstrong

Picture yourself.  You are a solid upstanding citizen with a good job and in a relationship with a like-minded person.  Then one day your world is turned upside down when a ‘family’ moves in next door.  It soon becomes obvious that both adults are using drugs.

However, it is not until the five year old daughter comes over to visit that your worries really commence.  You note human teeth marks on her leg, bruises on her body and she tells you that ‘Mummy did it’.  Of course you contact authorities.  Child welfare does nothing and the police visit antagonises the male, who is not the child’s father.  A few days later he is holding the five year old upside down and shaking her violently and promises to do worse if you call authorities again.

What would you do?  Abduct the girl?  Would you risk going to jail for the sake of a five year old girl?

That is exactly what Anna does.  She takes five year old Charlie and leaves town.  Anna and Charlie head for the bush.  They find refuge in a sparsely populated area with little connection to the outside world.  In this environment they are safe.  For a while!

All stories need an end and I am not prepared to reveal how this one ends.

I listened to this story and need to give the narrator a pat on the back on the back.  I have often stated that the narrator can make or break an audio book.  Leith McPherson’s narration of Promise made the book so enjoyable.   Characters were easily identifiable by ‘their’ voices.   A big plus when listening to audio books while driving.

I think

Odd Ball

Week 26, 2017

This was not the first roadside collection of

undetonated ammunition.

We were told that this is only a ‘couple of weeks worth’

of undetonated or dud ammunition.

It was the first hand grenade we sighted.

I did hear a member of the group state

that it still had the pin in it.

I did not inspect any closer to verify this statement

Week 92

I found this week’s theme a hard one to get my head around.

Then I remembered stories of how all

World War I Cemeteries and Monuments

were cared for during World War II…

and I wondered if the ghosts of

the Great War had a hand

in protecting these Sacred Grounds.
