Black and White Tuesday16-2604

Black and White Tuesday

 April 26, 2016

A break from my usual Black and White today,

in favour of an ANZAC Day post.

Please forgive the quality of photos.

My phone does not take the best photos

Over twenty years ago Collingwood and Essendon

began a tradition of playing on ANZAC Day.

This tradition has developed to the extent

they even have a joint banner for the players

to run through before the game.

When both teams and umpires were the ground,

the pre-match solemnities began.

As one, just over 85,000 fans rose to participate…

DC Photography

and join the players remembering all who…

have fought in two world Wars

and other conflicts…

and observe a minute of silence.

The New Zealand flag was raised and…

the NZ National Anthem performed by

a member of the NZ armed forces.

The followed the Australian National Anthem

and flag raising ceremony.

Then it was on with the game.

Collingwood won so I came home happy.

Happier still with the game played by

Texan debutant Mason Cox who kicked a goal

with his first kick in an AFL game and

went on to assist in several others.

More can be read about Mason’s transition from

basketball to Australian Rules Football here.

Hope you enjoyed.

    • So true Raewyn. The ew Zealand National Anthem was played before the football commenced. I have only been to one or two ANZAC Days matches and this was a first as far as I know…at the football. Quite fitting, also.
