The Shortest Day.

~~~~~
This post commenced its life as a ‘shortest day’ post.  However, seeing as the shortest day was yesterday…..
First, I need to re-live some of last year’s posts.
Cactus_0247c
This was for an ‘ornate’ challenge last year.
Cactus_0232
Someone thought my first photo may have been marzipan, so shortly after I posted this photo, of the whole bush, with a brick for scale purposes as.  Thanks goodness MGW was able to tell me what marzipan was.
cactus_0117This morning June 22, 2014, our cactus is still thriving in its hot corner
and was cheerfully soaking up the morning sun.
I allowed the brick to make an encore, also.
golf-ball_0140The rest of these photos are from this morning’s shoot.  Above is the Pittosporum Golf Ball.  A compact bush growing to about 40 to 50 cm high…so says the blurb.  As usual this one, way out in the garden seems to be more compact than the one residing at our front door…and which has had a severe ‘haircut’.  All of our Golf Balls are closer to 80 x 80 cm.  Pity the white ones are not as big!  Today, a local hardware chain is advertising them for $17.98 in a 140 mm pot.  Highway robbery?  I’m sure they were not that price when we made our purchases.
camellia_0132This camellia was one of the first plants we purchased and planted years ago at our first home.  Nine years ago we moved and camellia came with us.  It was unceremoniously dug up and popped it into a 10 litre plastic drum for its two-hour drive to its new location.  It always produces many buds but does not flower often as it is a fairly open position, hence the reason for taking a photo of a ‘past its best’ flower.
daisy_0127We have often said that our garden looks best in winter and this morning’s short wander around did not do anything to change my mind.  Plenty of colour in both flowers and foliage.  More of these photos in the next few weeks.
Weekly Photo Challenge-Between
~~~~~

My contribution for this week’s challenge…

Between.

~~~~~
rain_0060
Today, between midday and 1 PM we had a heavy downpour of rain,
rain_0061causing gutters to overflow, but…
maggie_0063nothing would come between Maggie and Soxie in this weather.  Or perhaps that should be nothing will come between Maggie and her bed in cold, wet weather; not even Soxie who has just managed to squeeze in.
corio-bay_0012Fast forward to 5.45 this evening and between the trees I noticed this beautiful sight at the end of Cunningham Peer.
corio-bay_0014I was quite pleased with the results considering they were handheld shots.
corio-bay_0025Around to my left North Shore was lit up and reflecting all its glory out on to Corio Bay.  The night was so still that reflections were clearly visible right out into Corio Bay and between the boats at anchor.
