Wordless Wednesday-‘Home’

A few months ago I had cause to return to my home town and took time to drive around and take a few photos.

This was our woolshed where I spent many sweaty hours during the 18 years we owned the property.  It was an old and shed when we purchased the property in 1986.  Dad and I repaired the north wall (containing the window) and also the yards had a makeover.  A mini cyclone ensured the left hand side of the main roof was replaced during the 1990s.

Subsequent owners have removed all the sheep yards which were in the middle ground and let the shed fall into disrepair.

WoolShedm_1941This wool shed was on the family home block.  I also spent many hours in this shed from childhood until the year my father passed away.  I helped build the skillion roof section, near the tank.  I also helped with the ramp into the shed which is made from solid blue-stone and cement.  The steel frame cattle yards have been erected by subsequent owners.

Originally this block of land belonged to my grandfather (Dad’s father) as part of the solider settlement farms after World War 1.  In fact both the farms depicted here began their life as part of a much larger farm which was split into small 500 – 600 acre farms after World War 1.
