Wordless Wednesday – Moon Streak

~~~~~
This series of shots was taken just on dark last Saturday evening (July, 19)….around 6 PM.
~~~~~

Moon_1869

I was trying to get my ISO (which I believe is similar to the ASA setting of last century – no pun) button to work with little success.

~~~~~
Moon_1872
Shaking hands, that’s normal for me, and slow shutter speeds did not help the quality of the shots or my disposition…
~~~~~

MoonStreak_1873

This last one is the result of moving the camera before all the clicks, bangs and whirs were completed.  I have not taken time to learn exactly how a digital camera shutter works.  However, in this instance the trees seem to be as in focus, or better than the other shots.

So why the elephant in the picture?

My contribution for this week’s Black and White Challenge.

I think the photos were taken with my iPad…but not sure.

I am not sure what I have photographed…just that I found these on my iPad.

Travel Theme: Tilted

~~~~~
I came across this clock in a garden while photographing an,
as yet, unpublished post.
Thought it would fit with this week’s
 Tilted Travel Theme.
Clock_1865
I am continually watching my time-piece when travelling.
I began to write about what is tilted with this clock.
The more I look at it the more tilts I can see.
Phoneography-Fog
These are four photographs taken with my HTC phone. Taken the same time (few seconds apart), same day, same place.
There has been no colour correcting applied to any of these photos.
So does anyone have an explanation for the odd one?
Cee’s Which Way Challenge-Wk 2
This is how we travelled up to Kuranda Village on the outskirts of Cairns.
It is a slow, picturesque, ride through the Kuranda State Forest.
Over bridges which cling to the mountain sides and past scenic waterfalls to Kuranda Village.
Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Fresh
My contribution for this week’s
Weekly Photo Challenge ~ Fresh.
sprinkler_1818
While taking these photos the atmosphere could only be described as ‘fresh’.
~~~~~

frost2206_1799

Fresh frost on….

~~~~~
…..on fresh mulch.
~~~~~

frost2206_1795

My favourite.

Even with the sun leaving the horizon behind frost was still clinging desperately to freshly laid mulch.

Cee’s Which Way Challenge-Wk 1

This is how travellers used to cross the river at Shelford.

Now disused, it has more character than its modern replacement.

~~~~~
OlBrdge
I will even be brave enough to suggest that thirsty travellers,
with the Shelford pub at the other end,
would have made quick crossings.
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Summer
As soon as I saw Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge was Summer my mind immediately returned to Friday January 4, 2013.
I had planned a drive along The Great Ocean Road to show my Canadian friends one of Australia’s major tourist attractions.
~~~~~~

LG-1A

It was about mid-afternoon before we reached one of the last stops,  Loch Ard Gorge.  The temperature had passed 40 degrees and the bitumen in the car park was beginning to melt and break up under the weight of tourist buses and light traffic.

~~~~~~
LG-2A
I have been into the Gorge on many occasion….
~~~~~~

LG-4A

…however, on this day, after  five or six hours driving, searing heat and the lack of breeze when down on the sand, had me wishing I had picked a cooler day.  Even in the shade of the cliff was too hot…..but it was summer.

Fortunately the drive home was a lot quicker using inland roads.  If you ever visit the Great Ocean Road it is a slow, beautiful drive.  Setting out early from Melbourne or Geelong should see you comfortably in Warrnambool for an overnight stay.  Conversely a long day trip is possible of you plan to return on quieter, straighter inland highways.  By turning inland at Port Campbell you will have a quick two-hour drive to Geelong.

Friday Flower Festival – Agapanthus

Until around 25 years ago I do not think that I had seen, or at least retained a memory of, an agapanthus.

All that changed when MGW and I purchased an old rambling 1920s home with an equally old and rambling garden.

~~~~~
Agapanthus_1184b
We had agapanthus growing everywhere, courtesy of the previous owners.
 These are some of the plants that travelled to a new home with us.
Google tells me they are Lily-Of-The-Nile, agapanthus.
~~~~~

Agapanthus_1184a

Since our move we have noticed newer varieties being sold and are in the process of establishing some of them in our garden.

The purple variety, in the background is the one we refer to as the ‘Black Aggie’.

Nurseries and Google know it as  the Black Pantha, agapanthus.

~~~~~Agapanthus_1185a
My favourite.
The Black Pantha agapanthus has spectacular deep purple colouring which is a gorgeous contrast to the blue agapanthus.
In another part of the garden there are some Queen Mum agapanthus.
The Queen Mum’s should produce decent blooms next spring and summer.
The Queen Mum petals which has dual-toned flower heads with  are predominately white flower heads which transition gracefully from a purple base to a white tip.
Reflections
Reflection_1838-1
It is not often you can take water reflection photos outside one’s back door.
~~~~~

Reflection_1839-2

However, after thirty-one mm of rain earlier in the week,

this was part of the scene which greeted us.

~~~~~
Reflection_1846-3
At least as the sun set the rain had stopped falling and our yard was beginning to dry.
~~~~~

Reflection_1851-4

Even as light faded there was one last reflection to shoot.

I find the larger version of these photos much better provides
